    This is a provisional appointment.

     

    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

     

    Under general supervision, engages in code enforcement and community education for the Rodent Control Program.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plans/schedules the daily activities of the Urban Rodent Control Program within impacted areas in order to provide appropriate program coverage to determine priorities, target areas, etc., and to ensure code enforcement and the correction of code violations.
    • Applies pesticides, insecticides, larvicides, etc., where/as needed, or directed by supervisor.
    • Conducts surveys on current rodent problems (degree of infestation), improper refuse storage, etc., in order to document and provide environmental health information for City, State and Federal agencies.
    • Reviews site cleanliness applications and performs site inspections to ensure compliance with City of Boston's Site Cleanliness Ordinance. Delivers Site Cleanliness Permits to businesses/applicants.
    • Writes and submits weekly and quarterly reports on premises visited.
    • Contributes to Community Education & Staff Training, as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

     

    • At least one (1) year of experience in Rodent Control or closely related field is required.
    • Knowledge of Massachusetts Sanitation Codes, knowledge of the Inspectional Services Department health policies and procedures, IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practices, and manuals pertaining to Rodent Control.
    • Ability to prepare written reports, and to establish and maintain effective working relations with the general public required.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
    • A multi-lingual candidate is also preferred.
    • Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
    • Applicator's Core (Pesticide) License and HAZ-MAT Technician certification required upon hire or within first six (6) months of employment.

    CORI check required.

     

    City of Boston Residency required.
