This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Human Resources Division or designee, the Principal Personnel Officer is assigned to the Human Resources Division.  The Principal Personnel Officer position is responsible for performing human resource administrative work and providing analysis of various human resource programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions;

Maintains human resource information system records;

 

Writes, maintains and supports a variety of reports and queries using appropriate reporting tools. Assists in development of standard reports for ongoing needs. Helps maintain data integrity in systems by running queries, analyzing data and updating records;

 

Researches, analyzes data and prepares weekly reports on attrition, new HR project suggestions and current program goals and progress;

Facilitates information requests from various Boston Police Department units and the City of Boston;

Prepares salary and benefits information for retirees;

Implements and administers employee policies;

Assists Human Resources Director and Deputy Director with various research projects and/or special projects;

 

Performs related work as required.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in personnel work, data reporting or related field. Two years may be substituted with a Bachelor’s degree and three years with a Masters degree in a related field.  Must be able to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.  

 

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience using and demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PeopleSoft or other human resources management system; including knowledge of running queries.
